Dr Somjee has extensive training and experience in evidence based clinical psychology services. She provides psychotherapy to adults and adolescents, and offers individual and couples psychotherapy. Her approaches to treatment include cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic and mindfulness based psychotherapy. Areas of focus include:

Couples Psychotherapy

Dr. Somjee sees couples dealing with a variety of issues. These can include, couples who are dealing with infidelity, family conflicts, chronic medical illnesses, working together/co-owning businesses, strained communications, and couples who have drifted apart.

Some people decide on couples psychotherapy to build a stronger relationship, some to assess if they can remain together, and some to break up amicably and continue working together on behalf of their children, their business, and so forth.

Individual psychotherapy is usually covered by most insurance companies. However, it is a good idea to call your insurance company directly to check.

Couples psychotherapy is not covered by most insurance companies. However, it is a good idea to call your insurance company and check. Sometimes your employer’s EAP program might cover a few sessions. The majority of couple’s do pay out of pocket.

Dr. Somjee specializes in delivering health/medical psychology services for patients with chronic medical conditions. She provides psychosocial treatments to help patients engage in their medical treatment and manage their medical health, alongside medical treatments they are receiving from their medical professionals.

Her expertise in clinical health psychology includes a focus on implementing innovative models of healthcare delivery within medical healthcare systems; thereby increasing patient engagement, improving patient care, and decreasing healthcare costs.

Additionally, she has experience providing psychosocial precepting / training to medical residents and fellows, as well as providing consultation to physicians to promote patient engagement and improve patient health.
